Dogs are explorers; they want to smell and sometimes taste everything they can get their snouts in, on, or around, especially blooming beauties. Some of those fascinating smells and tastes aren’t safe for canine friends. Various common and beautiful flowers are dangerous for your pup, so be sure to familiarize yourself with them and keep your dog safe from their toxins.

    1. Tulips

These famous flowers once took the world by storm when “tulip mania” swept Europe in the 17th century, and it’s easy to see why, given their simple beauty. But tulips, especially their bulbs, are dangerous for dogs and can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

    2. Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas are part of a larger family of plants that include cyanogenic glycosides, meaning that if someone of any species ingests enough of the plant, it will give them cyanide poisoning. Luckily, your dog would have to eat a lot of hydrangeas before getting severely sick, but it's best to keep an eye out.

    3. Daisies

Another widely adored flower, daisies are especially common in gardens, parks, and arrangements (though hopefully your dog knows better than to try to eat one of those). If ingested, daisies can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and skin irritation.

    4. Calla Lilies

The singular beauty of calla lilies makes them a favorite of many people, but beware of having them around your favorite canine friend. If a dog eats a calla lily, the flower can cause significant issues for its mouth and throat, including irritation, pain, and difficulty swallowing.

    5. Azaleas

These popular plants can be extremely dangerous for pets. If a dog ingests an azalea, partly or entirely, it can experience symptoms as severe as seizures, cardiac failure, comas, or even death.

    6. Morning Glory

Morning glories are beautiful, intensely colored flowers that give a wonderful visual pop to any garden. But their visual power doesn’t end there. If ingested in large amounts, morning glories can make dogs hallucinate. While smaller amounts will keep dogs safe from unwanted visions, even small quantities of the flowers can make them vomit.

    7. Iris

The multi-faceted iris is a favorite of florists for good reason, but it’s not so good for your dog. The entire plant is harmful to dogs, but the flower’s roots are the most dangerous and cause severe vomiting and diarrhea.

    8. Rhododendron

Rhododendrons are lovely multi-blooming flowers that can be deadly for dogs if ingested in large amounts. The flower causes gastrointestinal issues, leading to vomit and diarrhea no matter what, but if a dog eats enough of it, it may end up paralyzed, comatose, or even dead.

    9. Amaryllis

A favorite during spring, amaryllis flowers are yet another beauty that can cause vomiting and diarrhea for your canine companion. In fact, these flowers can be so upsetting to dogs’ stomachs that they have a significantly decreased appetite.

    10. Daffodil

Like most flowers here, daffodils can cause severe vomiting and diarrhea if ingested by dogs. But these flowers can lead to arrhythmia and convulsions if eaten in more significant amounts.
