My cat loves staring at the ceiling and howling at sprinklers. I joke that he is an alien and he's waiting for his mothership to rescue him from this Earthly habitat based on his eccentric behaviors. Though he acts like a being from the sky and not a cat—trust me, there are more strange behaviors— I love that weirdo more for his curious reactions to this world. Read on for more weird and hilarious pet actions.
1. Staring Cat
Here's another tale from a staring cat, but this feline fancies staring at humans from inside the bathtub. The cat cozies up in the porcelain tub and stares at the humans until they close the curtain. The creepiest part is when you forget the cat is in the tub and glance over to beady eyes staring back at you in the middle of the night.
2. Bathtub Meeting
This person adds that their four cats used to have a monthly meeting in the bathtub. All four felines hopped in the tub—in the dark—and when the owners couldn't find the fur babies, they whipped back the shower curtain and saw the kittens curled around the bath faucet. As soon as their parents found them, they hopped back into their normal corridors.
3. Reverse Fetch
One person's dog has a stuffed elephant she plays with on the couch. After attacking it for a little while, she nudges it closer and closer to the edge and eventually pushes it off. She stares at it for a minute, then looks at her owner and does her demanding bark. The pet owner picks it up and puts it back on the couch, which happens multiple times until she returns to chewing on the toy.
4. Won't Eat If He Spys The Bottom Of The Bowl
My late cat Hemingway would not eat his food if he spotted the bottom of the bowl. He munched away, happy as a plum, until he noticed the smallest sliver of ceramic. Then, he backed away from the bowl, stared at you, and emitted a peep to fill up his bowl.
5. Licks the Shower Floor
For some reason, pets do not like drinking from their designated water bowls. They would much rather lick the drips from a moldy faucet, drink stale bath water, or clean the bottom of a shower floor fresh after their owners step out of the shower.
6. Ticket Please
When their Black Lab wants to get on the sofa, he brings a toy, which he presents like a ticket. He thinks he needs the toy to gain entrance to the sofa. They discovered that if they tell him he doesn't need a toy because it's the weekend, he is fine with that.
7. Smells My Breath
My five-year-old alien cat loves smelling your breath. Approach him to pet him, and he will get in your face and stare at you until you open your mouth and let him inhale whatever food remnants linger in your mouth. He sticks his whole head in your mouth and breathes a few times before deciding he's had enough.
8. Who Sneezed?
One dog dad states that their pup loses their tail when they sneeze. They act calm and chill when other people sneeze, but when their owner sneezes, they bolt through the house, check every room for intruders, and bark at everything.
9. Pinches Me
Have you ever met a cat who expresses anger when you make a pinching motion toward them? A respondent writes that their cat can't stand whenever anyone makes a pinching gesture toward her. She huffs, grows angry, and sprints away from the scene.
10. Who Let the Ducks Out?
A duck owner voices his story. "Two of my male runner ducks have a thing for feet. If your toes are visible, then they will preen/nibble them. It doesn't hurt at all. It feels like a tickle! If you're wearing boots or trainers, they literally don't care, but the second they see your little piggies, they come running!"
