People prefer different drinks depending on the day (or night) and social situations. Celebratory moods call for light, delicious drinks enjoyed by many, while others are often used to wash our stresses away. Preferences aside, here are ten drinks that everyone seems to love but users of a popular food forum just don't enjoy.
1. Tomato Juice And Bloody Marys
"It might as well be vomit," joked a user with a solid opinion about the drink. I would second her and say that the thought of blending tomatoes and attempting to turn them into something delicious to drink doesn't sound appealing. But that could be because I still pick tomatoes from my food, even as an adult.
2. Old Fashioned
The Old Fashioned has a long history, but what leaves a sour taste in many people's mouths is that it can be made with a huge range of ingredients. There's nothing specific to it! To nail it, you'll have to play around and find combos that work for you. But it kind of does my taste buds in, and online users seem to agree.
3. Classic Gin Martini
"I've tried a bunch of different ratios to make this drink work for me, even dry vermouth and gins. But every year, I like it less and less," said a commenter. A classic gin martini tastes more like squid ink or a mozzarella ball. In other words, the taste is incomprehensible.
4. Dirty Martinis
Most online users say they love olives but don't necessarily want to drink them. One emphasized by saying, "I love them both, but I loathe the combination of olives and martinis. Add a lemon twist instead and save the olives for the salad." Don't you agree?
5. Gin and Tonic
"I don't like the bitterness of the tonic water," adds another user, with a third one admitting, "The number of times I've asked for a gin soda and got handed gin and tonic is unbelievable." It seems like the two drinks easily swap for the other, but one thing we can all agree on is that tonic water ruins a perfect glass of gin.
6. Coconut Water
My tongue itself protests at the thought of coconut water. "The first time I tried coconut water, I spit it out," admits a bartender. "There are a couple of drinks I can't stand that contain coconut water. It's an absolute no for me." Coconut water has a strong taste that's not for the faint of flavor.
7. Negroni
This drink comes with a strange and robust orange syrup flavor. Now, we all need our vitamin C, but this one is hard-hitting. Negroni reminds me of medicine I took regularly as a child but multiplies it tenfold.
8. Aperol Spritz
"This one tastes like vaguely carbonated store-brand cough syrup. Never again," admitted a platform member. While I've never had the pleasure of trying an Aperol Spritz, I'll admit that his description made my stomach churn.
9. Ramos
Most online users admitted that a Ramos is best known for its lackluster flavor. The cream and egg are a combination that doesn't work well, and it seems like the great flavor gets lost somewhere between the mixing and shaking.
10. Espresso Martinis
Bartenders don't like making it, and we don't enjoy drinking it! An espresso martini sounds like two drinks that you should have separately. I'm not sure if it's just me, but I firmly believe coffee has no place in the bar. Plus, if you don't use the correct ratio of coffee to alcohol, the drink will end up tasting like regret.
